Hurricane Sandy and the Water Dragon
2012 is the year of the Yang Water Dragon (Ren Chen.) Like the unpredictable ocean, Yang Water represents tumultuous, fast moving and sometimes dangerous water. Both life giving and destructive, water (shui) delivers life force energy (ch’i) across the universe and is powerful enough to erode even the strongest of barriers. For this reason, Water is the ultimate agent of change.
In Chinese astrology, the Dragon is the only sign of twelve that is otherworldly. It is considered to be the most flamboyant, temperamental and difficult to know. And while western mythological winged dragons take to the sky, the eastern Dragon dwells in the realm of water. The sign of imperial authority and dominion, Dragons are vigorous, farsighted and decisive. Dragons also represent mountain ranges, and by association are linked to movement and upheavals of earth.
Chinese astrologers maintain that the combination of powerful Water and shifting Earth in 2012 suggests an increase in natural disasters such as flooding, tsunami and earthquakes. Since today, October 29, 2012, is a Water Boar (gui hai) day in a Water Dragon (ren chen) year, it is to be expected that forces of nature will collide to bring widespread fear to all in the path of moving water and disruptions to transportation, communication and other normal activities.
To my friends and family in the northeastern United States, be sure to seek refuge, heed warnings and be still today. The force of nature will prevail for awhile and like the ocean tide, recede to its proper level in time.
Wishing you safe harbors, peace and good ch’i,
Diane Gallin, CFSC
