Hurricanes and Yang Water

hurricane-matthew

Friday October 7 is a Yang Water Dog (ren xu) day. Like the vast and unpredictable ocean, Yang Water represents tumultuous, fast moving and often dangerous water. Both life giving and destructive, water (shui) delivers chi energy and is powerful enough to erode even the strongest of barriers. For this reason, Water is the ultimate agent of change.

We have seen the devastating power of hurricanes over small islands lacking natural barriers and its violent impact on large land masses that meet the sea. Water’s nature is to descend and find its way over, under, around and through anything in its path. It’s no wonder that Traditional Chinese Medicine equates the water element with the emotion of fear.

To all who find themselves affected by this strong combination of wind and water, please heed warnings, seek refuge and move to higher ground until the destructive energy subsides and water recedes to its natural level.

Wishing you safe harbors and shelter from the storm,

Diane Gallin
